Tax Filing Deadline Extended in Response to COVID-19

March 25, 2020

Tax Payment Deferral and Relief Legislation

Today Treasury Secretary Mnuchin stated that he is moving the April 15, 2020 tax filing date to July 15, 2020. Secretary Mnuchin indicated further that all taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest and penalties. From his current announcement it appears that this filing extension only applies to tax returns originally due on April 15th. Please see this dedicated IRS website for continuing updated guidance https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus.

No official decision has been made yet to alter the State of Georgia's filing or payment deadline. Georgia continues to evaluate the situation and hopes to have a decision in the near future.
