Rushton Awards New Scholarship for Accounting Students

June 22, 2022

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (May 2022) - Rushton, one of Northeast Georgia’s largest business accounting and consulting firms, announced its first recipient of a new scholarship fund which supports promising college students pursuing their degree in accounting.

Zachary Tyler Martin, a rising junior at the University of Georgia, was selected for the inaugural Rushton Educational Scholarship, which was established in December 2021 at the North Georgia Community Foundation.

Martin, who is from Kennesaw, Georgia, was among a large pool of eligible scholarship applicants for this one-time $2,750 award that is applied to their tuition and education-related expenses.

“We are delighted to make this investment in Zachary and his bright future in accounting,” said Chris Hollifield, Rushton’s managing partner. “His passion for accounting, balanced with a commitment to community, really set him apart for this award.”

Martin is seeking an accounting degree and plans to pursue a CPA license and possibly a juris doctorate in tax law. He has a 4.0 GPA and anticipates graduating in May 2024. In addition to his impressive academic achievements, Martin enthusiastically gives back to his community. He has served as a peer tutor in accounting, economics, and legal studies as well as volunteering at UGA’s Disability Resource Center.

Martin is a member of the University of Georgia Judiciary and the Student Financial Planning Association in addition to participating in the university’s Professionalism and Mentorship programs. He also is a Phi Sigma Pi member and has served as initiate class secretary.

Martin says he is passionate about becoming an accountant as it will give him the opportunity to push his limits and better serve his community, university, and future firm.

The Rushton scholarship is administered by the North Georgia Community Foundation and runs through their annual scholarship cycle. To be eligible for the award, applicants are required to be a full-time rising junior or senior college student pursuing a degree in accounting at a public or private college or university in Georgia and maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. The applicant’s extracurricular activities are also considered.
